This vintage 1980s Bahamian straw tote bag is a fine example of traditional island craftsmanship. The piece features authentic hand-woven palmetto palm frond construction with a distinctive checkerboard plait. The front is elaborately decorated with vibrant raffia embroidery depicting a tropical scene with two pink flamingos flanking a central palm tree, accented by colorful 3D floral appliques. The word "BAHAMAS" is hand-stitched across the top, while the back features the artisan's signature "B.E.M." in dark green thread. The interior is fully lined in a copper-toned synthetic fabric, reflecting the mid-to-late 20th-century souvenir market aesthetic of Nassau and the Family Islands.
