Red Willow Transferware - Glazed Ironstone
Vintage, 4 Pieces
This lot of four divided grill plates features the iconic Red Willow transferware pattern, a design rich in history and narrative. Based on a 19th-century English adaptation of Chinese motifs, the pattern depicts the classic romantic legend through its bridge, pagoda, and weeping willow iconography. These plates utilize a three-section "grill plate" layout, a design traditionally favored for serving mixed meals while keeping components separate, making them both functional and highly collectible examples of mid-century American table service.
• Circular red "MADE IN U.S.A." backstamp verified on each plate reverse
• Classic Willow pattern elements including the bridge, tea house, and floral border motifs
• Three-section divided design for compartmentalized serving
• Measures approximately 10-11 inches in diameter
Condition: Very good vintage condition. The transferware remains crisp and vibrant with minimal fading. The glazes show high gloss with no significant utensil marking or surface scratches. No chips or cracks observed. One plate shows a minor localized manufacturing pinhead spot under the glaze, typical of vintage earthenware production. All pieces are consistent in color and weight.
