Mid-Century Japanese Import, c. 1953-1971
This is a set of two matching vintage teacups and saucers by Lefton China, a notable American company that imported high-quality, hand-decorated porcelain from Japan during the mid-20th century. This particular design, #1798, features a romantic Victorian-era courting couple scene set within an ornate gold cartouche. The vibrant pink banding and lustrous interior finish are characteristic of popular decorative styles from the 1950s and 60s.
• Each piece features a central transferware scene of a courting couple.
• Interior of cups and surface of saucers have a pearlescent lusterware finish.
• Accented with hand-applied gold gilt trim on the rims and handles.
• Saucer measures approximately 4.5" in diameter; Cup is approx. 3" high.
Condition: Used. Excellent vintage condition with no visible chips, cracks, or crazing. The color, luster finish, and gold gilt remain bright and largely intact with only minimal signs of age-related wear. Both original red foil 'Lefton Exclusives Japan' stickers are present on the undersides.
