Japanese Kutani Style
Pheasant Bird & Floral Motif
Vintage Mid-Century Export Ware
This is a fine example of vintage Japanese export pottery, executed in the traditional Kutani style. The vase features a vibrant, hand-painted scene with pheasant birds amidst colorful florals, rendered on a cream-colored ground with a distinct crazed glaze. The design is highlighted by the use of Moriage, a raised enamel technique that adds texture and dimension, along with extensive gold gilt accents. A wide, glossy black band encircles the shoulder, creating a dramatic contrast. The base bears a red overglaze maker's mark, confirming its Japanese origin.
• Hand-painted with a detailed pheasant bird and floral motif.
• Features traditional Moriage raised enamel and extensive gold gilt detailing.
• Distinctive black band contrasts with the cream-colored, crazed glaze.
• Measures approximately 9" in height and 8" in diameter.
Condition: Good vintage condition. The vase displays prominent crazing throughout the glaze, which is a characteristic feature of this type of pottery and contributes to its authentic patina. There is some minor wear to the gold gilt and painted details consistent with age and handling. No significant chips or cracks are visible upon inspection.
